Rail Revitalisation Program

Rail Revitalisation Program

During the Armadale and Thornlie Line shutdown the PTA is undertaking major maintenance work between Kenwick and Sherwood stations. The work is essential due to the age of the infrastructure and will reduce the demand for shutdowns in the future.

The work includes the renewal of 15kms of track, 25 pedestrian crossings and 10 level crossings, and improving and installing new drainage systems. Upgrades to the overhead lines, communications, and signals facilities to connect to works being completed on the Victoria-Park Canning Level Crossing Removal and Byford Rail Extension projects are also part of the program.

Out-of-hours works

Out-of-hours track works will be taking place between Kenwick and Sherwood stations. Works are required to be out-of-hours as there will be disruptions to the vehicle and pedestrian level crossings.

Various pedestrian and vehicle level crossings require nightly closures as per the below schedule.

  • Maddington Station pedestrian level crossings: Sunday 18 May to Saturday 24 May between 7pm and 5am
  • Austin Ave vehicle and pedestrian level crossings: Sunday 18 May to Saturday 24 May between 7pm and 5am

  • Dorothy Street vehicle and pedestrian level crossings:
    • 7pm Tuesday 20 May to 5am Wednesday 21 May
    • 7pm Friday 23 May to 5am Saturday 24 May

  • Seaforth Station and Lake Road pedestrian level crossing: Sunday 25 May to Thursday 5 June between 7pm and 5am
  • Ottaway Street, Challis and Sherwood stations pedestrian level crossing: Thursday 5 June to Saturday 14 June between 7pm and 5am
  • Solent Road vehicle and pedestrian level crossings: Monday 5 June to Friday 13 June between 7pm and 5am

As part of these works there will also be short intermittent closures at several pedestrian and vehicle level crossings between Kenwick and Sherwood at night between 18 May and 5 June. Traffic management will be in place at each crossing.

While every effort will be made to minimise noise, some disturbance may be unavoidable.
