Standard work hours are Monday to Saturday, 7am–7pm, and any out-of-hours works are indicated below. Some activities across the project work site will start from 6am.
All works will follow approved noise and traffic management plans, and every effort will be made to minimise impacts.

Testing and commissioning
Until mid-May, testing and commissioning will be taking place, alongside driver familiarisation. Trains will be operating along the line, in preparation for entry into revenue service.
Building rail infrastructure
Works within the Mandurah Line rail corridor (along Kwinana Freeway) between Roe Highway and Russell Road/Gibbs Road, and at the Glen Iris Rail Tunnel:
- delivery of materials
- adjusting overhead line equipment, signalling, power and communications equipment and cables
- rail testing and adjusting.
Works within the freight rail corridor and Thornlie Line passenger rail corridor between the Glen Iris Rail Tunnel, Jandakot and Beckenham Street / Dulwich Street, Beckenham include:
- adjusting track, ballast, sleepers and overhead line equipment
- installing underground services and drainage
- building retaining and noise walls
- installing fencing
- delivery and unloading of materials.
Upcoming night works in the Mandurah Line rail corridor
Between Glen Iris rail tunnel (south of Roe Highway) and Aubin Grove Station, as well as in and around the Glen Iris rail tunnel and Cockburn Central Station, out-of-hours works are currently planned on the following dates:
- 16 May
- 21 May
- 23 May
- 26 & 27 May
Existing site compounds, material stockpiles and site access / egress points will be used to support these out-of-hours works, which may result in additional noise during the night.
Out-of-hours works for rail adjustments - South Lake, Jandakot, Thornlie, and Kenwick
During May and early June, the newly installed rail network will be tested and adjusted between 6pm and 6am nightly. This will involve surveying, tamping and regulating the track, installing Overhead Line Equipment, and using specialised signalling and communications equipment.
This will include:
- Night shifts from 15 to 22 May (inclusive)
- Continuous work (day and night shifts) from 17 May to 19 May and from 4 to 8 June.
Upcoming out-of-hours work - Jandakot, Canning Vale, Thornlie & Kenwick
Across wekeends in May and early June, the team will work at stations and various locations along the new passenger railway between the Glen Iris Rail Tunnel, Jandakot and the rail tunnel between Kenwick and Beckenham.
Key work locations will include:
- the rail tunnel at Kenwick
- nearby Kenwick Link and Canning River
- Spring Road Reserve
- Thornlie Station
- Nicholson Road Station
- nearby Jubaea Court
- nearby Park Lane
- Ranford Road Station
- nearby Hope Road/Training Place
- in and around the Glen Iris Rail Tunnel.
Activities will include:
- installing and adjusting signalling, communications and power equipment
- installing and removing fencing
- excavating for drainage
- earthworks and asphalting
- track adjustments including use of tamping and regulating machines
- building works at Thornlie Station, Nicholson Road Station and Ranford Road Station
- earthworks nearby Jubaea Court and Hope/Training Place.
Existing site compounds and site access/egress points will be used to support these out-of-hours works, which may result in additional noise outside of normal hours.
Building foundations and piers, Jandakot
There will be work activities in the Glen Iris Drive cul-de-sac alleyway to build foundations and piers for the acoustic gate. This will involve the use of a concrete pump and may require some temporary traffic management in this area of Glen Iris Drive.
Wall construction and painting, Canning Vale and Jandakot
There will be an increase in noise during works to build and paint retaining and noise walls on the south side of the rail corridor between McLean Road in Canning Vale and Lakes Way in Jandakot.
Rail access construction, Canning Vale
There will be works to build the rail access track and connection points, in the McLean Road verge on the rail corridor side, where McLean Road is parallel to the railway, as well as in the rail corridor between Dowarn Green and Tulloch Way. This will involve excavating, placing and compacting materials, concreting and accessing the site via the local road.
A new rail access point will be built at the end of the Fairfield Gardens cul-de-sac, nearby Fairfield Park and connecting to the Mesa Place cul-de-sac. This will involve installing temporary and permanent fencing and barriers, delivering and moving construction equipment and materials, vegetation clearing where required, excavating, placing and compacting materials. Works take place between 7am and 7pm daily.
A temporary path closure will be in place until end of May to support some rail access construction.

Dewatering, Canning Vale and Thornlie
Possible increase in noise from 24/7 use of a pump and generator within the work sites near:
- Canning River, west of Rimmer Lane, Kenwick
- Southdown Place, Thornlie
- O’Dell Street, Thornlie
- Fairfield Gardens, Canning Vale
- Nicholson Road Station, Canning Vale
Level crossing permanent closure, Thornlie
The Elliot Place / Cameron Street pedestrian level crossing is permanently closed. Please use the signed detour routes shown in the map below.
The project includes a new footbridge to replace this crossing, providing safer access for pedestrians and cyclists.
Rail access construction and use, Thornlie
Work will take place to upgrade the existing rail access point between Nyandi Court and the rail corridor. This will then be used to support construction activities in the rail corridor. At times traffic management will be needed on the local road.
Drain and road access construction, Thornlie
Until end-September 2025, there will be works to remove redundant underground services, build a new drain and access road on the north side of the rail corridor near Southdown Place and Corriedale Reserve, Thornlie. This may result in more noise in the area when these works are happening.
Site facility changes and traffic management, Thornlie
The site laydown and parking area on Cameron Street is being extended along the verge and into the road, to support drain and footbridge construction. This involves traffic management on Cameron Street.
The northbound lane of Cameron Street, next to the cul-de-sac, will be temporarily closed until 31 August 2025. Access to properties will be maintained.
Wall construction and painting, Thornlie
There will be an increase in noise during works to build and paint retaining and noise walls on the south side of the rail corridor between Nyandi Court and Kidman Court, and O’Dell Street between Spring Road and Canning River Bridge, and on the north of the rail corridor at the Cameron St cul-de-sac and behind properties on Southdown Place, adjacent to Corriedale Reserve, Thornlie.
Drainage installation and retaining wall work, Thornlie
Until mid-2025, there will be works to upgrade the local drainage network at the Southdown Place cul-de-sac in conjunction with City of Gosnells works to replace a retaining wall and reinstate the local road.
There will be a temporary partial road and path closure with traffic management in place. Access to driveways and properties will be maintained at all times.
Rail access relocation, O'Dell Street, Thornlie
The existing rail access point on O’Dell Street will be relocated further along O’Dell Street, approximately 80 meters south-east.
Works are underway to relocate the access point will include locating underground services, clearing vegetation and concreting.
Reinstatement of O'Dell Street and Spring Road Reserve, Thornlie
Works are being carried out to reinstate O’Dell Street and Spring Road Reserve which includes reinstating the kerb and path, concreting and revegetation.
Thornlie Station – Out-of-hours works
Service installation will be carried out during night shift, Monday to Friday from 7pm to 7am, in the Thornlie Station area and to the west of the station carpark, adjacent to Kidman Court, Thornlie.
Canning River path closure, Thornlie
Canning River path under the rail bridges, near O’Dell Street Reserve and Southdown Place/Corridale Place, Thornlie, is closed until mid-2025 with a signed detour in place.
Material movements, Kenwick
There will be an increase in noise and use of Rimmer Lane as the team continues to use and rehabilitate the laydown area between Canning River and Kenwick Link.
Some movements will be needed intermittantly during night shifts.
Rail tunnel upgrade, Kenwick
There will be regular night shifts to support upgrade work inside the tunnel and in the rail corridor near the Thornlie Line rail tunnel, between Kenwick and Beckenham.
Noise wall construction, Kenwick
There will be an increase in noise during works to build and paint a noise wall along Burham Road, in Kenwick. Works will be ongoing until mid-May, Monday to Saturday from 7am to 7pm.
